Do you remember those mandatory writing and composition classes that you took back in school?  You know the ones.  Other than those few nerdy classmates who seemed to master their assignments in their sleep, the majority of the Steven King wannabes couldn’t discern adjectives from adverbs if they had their books opened.   Did you ace those classes? 

 If you were one of those geeky, great writers, then by all means go produce your own web copy.  Maintain your own blog, because your writing skills might be adequate to ensure a well-written excerpt.

 BUT – There’s more!

Do you know marketing?  You may have “real time” experience, but you have no online background – and you hope that will be sufficient?   You’ll be so busy learning to convert your marketing savvy to the Internet, you just might want to outsource your copywriting needs. 

Do you know SEO? SEM? PPC? RSS? CSS? Usability? (There are many more)  Sort of, but you expect you’ll pick up the particulars along the way?  You’d best start studying; it’s only the beginning of a very long learning excursion.

 Most importantly – Do you know how to keep your customers’ attention?  Losing a potential customer is just a quick click away.  Keeping their interest for longer than a few seconds can make a huge difference in your site’s success.  Are you trained in that marketing aspect?  Perhaps while you’re learning more, you’ll be needing web copy services.

 Consider those media commercials where you see business owners promoting their own products.   Frank Perdue made it work, but he was really a chicken in disguise; he had a perfect gimmick.  Can you think of any others?  Your local furniture store owner parades his entire family before the camera in an attempt to sell a dining room set.  You won’t be shopping there any time soon.  I’m betting that even Frank, while he appeared on camera, didn’t write his own copy.

Very few have all of the skills necessary to build a top-notch website that will produce results.
